What to Expect

Laser Eye Surgery Solutions in Calgary

Laser vision correction can be an intimidating idea for many people. That’s why our entire team is committed to being with you each step of the way, making sure you understand our procedures, your options, and what to expect. If you’d like to learn more about laser eye surgery and your options, don’t hesitate to reach out for a free, no-obligation consultation.

Your Consultation

The first step to understanding your options is a consultation at our clinic. While there is plenty of information available online about laser eye surgery, you simply can’t know which route is right for you without a full examination. At this consultation, we will provide an overview of our three types of procedures – PRK, Femto SBK, and Refractive Lens Exchange – and make sure you understand the basics of each. Determining which one of these procedures may be right for you will depend on a number of factors, including whether or not you’ve previously had eye surgery, the overall health of your eyes, and the unique shape of your eyes. To learn more about the procedures we offer, visit the Procedures & Surgeons page.

To figure out if you qualify for laser eye surgery, and to understand which option is right for you, we’ll conduct a full examination of your eyes. That means we will need to dilate your pupils for the exam, so we suggest that you bring a pair of sunglasses with you or bring someone who can drive for you. We’ll also go over all of your medical records to make sure there’s nothing that could pose complications.

This consultation is completely free and there is no obligation to move forward with surgery. If you’ve been thinking about how your life would improve without the need for glasses and contacts, head over to our Contact page to get in touch and book your consultation!

Day of Surgery

While “surgery” is rarely a comforting word, your laser vision correction procedure will likely be easy, quick, and painless. In fact, many of our patients are surprised when they’re able to read the clock on the wall immediately following their procedure. While laser eye surgery is a complex and intricate surgery, modern technology – combined with our highly talented surgical team – makes the procedure a very straightforward process.

Throughout the procedure, our number one concern is your safety and comfort.

Your eyes will be numbed using medicated drops. Then the surgeon will use a pair or lasers to perform a brief procedure at the corneal level of the eye. Altogether, procedures typically last less than a half hour

Post Surgery

After the procedure, it’s best to take it easy for 48-72 hours. Oftentimes, patients will experience blurry vision for a few days after the surgery, which is to be expected and isn’t something to worry about. By Day 2, you should be able to return to normal activities. After 3-5 days, you should be able to return to work.

That said, recovery is a bit different for everyone, so it’s important to pay attention to how you’re feeling and seeing and allowing these to be the primary indicators of how the healing process is coming along for you. We will schedule a post-operative appointment within 3 days of the surgery, though you can also complete this with your primary care physician.
